Renée Amilcar
Biography
An engineer with an MBA, Ms. Amilcar is a visionary leader widely recognized in the public transit sector.
Before being appointed CEO of MIQ in June 2025, she had served since 2021 as General Manager of OC Transpo, the agency responsible for urban transportation in the City of Ottawa. In this role, she demonstrated an exceptional ability to rigorously and successfully manage large-scale, complex infrastructure projects. She took on the demanding task of stabilizing the light rail system—which had experienced difficulties prior to her arrival—and successfully launched two new light rail lines.
Over her career, including nineteen years with the Société de transport de Montréal, she has consistently taken on major challenges while maintaining a strong focus on customer service. In 2023, she also became the first woman to serve as President of the International Association of Public Transport (UITP), an organization dedicated to promoting sustainable and resilient urban mobility worldwide.
Her talent for building strong relationships among stakeholders from both the public and private sectors, her proactive leadership style, and her extensive operational experience make Ms. Amilcar a uniquely qualified and influential figure in the field.
